Lisagor Award Win for Best Social or Short-Form Video

Lisagor Award Win for Best Social or Short-Form Video

Peter Lisagor was the Chicago Daily News Washington bureau chief from 1959-1976 (consider for a moment how much history and specifically journalism history that overlaps with). In 1977 the Headline Club established the Peter Lisagor Awards in his honor to recognize Chicago-area journalists who have followed in his wake.

My work with The Banditry Co. and WTTW News has received a 2022 Peter Lisagor Award for Best Social or Short-Form Video.

The winning project? Our series “WTTW News Explains”, This win, selected by an independent chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, was one of nine wins for our friends at WTTW.

The WTTW News Explains series is an ongoing series of 26 animated explainer videos exploring various Chicago-focused topics. My role is as a writer and producer, punching up scripts and providing direction on potential visuals and future topics.

Check out the whole series and WTTW News reporting on each topic here.

It feels very cool and a little bit silly to be the recipient of a journalism award, but I'll take it!
